Dhaka:The Special Committee on Constitution Amendment of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad plans to engage with individuals from various professional backgrounds in phases to deliberate on constitutional amendments.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the committee will reach out to constitutional experts, women leaders, academics, and participants from the July Mass Uprising, including those involved in drafting the July National Charter. Supreme Court judges, lawyers, teachers, and leaders from different sectors will also be invited to share their perspectives in upcoming meetings.
The announcement came after the committee's fifth meeting, chaired by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, held in the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad. Representatives of working-class communities who contributed to the July Mass Uprising, along with members of small ethnic and indigenous groups, attended, presenting various proposals for constitutional amendments.
The committee encourages those unable to attend in person to submit written proposals for consideration. Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman, State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, and committee members Sakila Farzana and Md Mahmudul Haque Rubel participated in the meeting.
Parliament members Dipen Dewan, Anna Minj, and Madhabi Marma were specially invited by the committee to attend. The committee assured that all proposals discussed or submitted in writing would be included in their final report.
Officials from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, along with Parliament Secretariat staff, were present at the meeting.
