Postal Department’s Successful Ballot Delivery Boosts Public Trust

Dhaka:Public trust in the postal service has grown significantly following the efficient delivery of postal ballots to voters both domestically and internationally during the last general election.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Director General of the Postal Department, Kazi Asadul Islam, emphasized at a press briefing for World Post Day in Agargaon that this success has led to increased reliance on postal services. The department successfully delivered over 1.5 million postal ballots under the Election Commission, enhancing public confidence.

The postal department is expanding its parcel services to meet rising public demand, offering doorstep pickup and extending nighttime services through a franchise model. In the last fiscal year, approximately five crore postal articles were handled, and foreign mail and parcels saw a 25.84 percent increase in the first three months of the current fiscal year.

Currently, the postal department operates 9,848 post offices with about 18,000 counters nationwide. It is delivering raw hilsa fish from Chandpur and cooked food from Dinajpur, ensuring deliveries within 16-18 hours. Initiatives are underway to introduce cash-on-delivery services for e-commerce and projects involving AI, automation, and a digital address management database.

Over the last two fiscal years, the postal department delivered 5.6 million passports, distributed seven lakh mouza maps and khatians, collected 1.5 million telephone bills, and delivered more than one million driving licenses. Additionally, over seven crore smart NID cards have been distributed.

The department received 80 e-bikes and 43 delivery vans from the Universal Postal Union, with 33 district post offices and 100 upazila post offices renovated through government funding. Bangladesh Postal Department has earned international recognition, including the e-Asia Award and ASOCIO Digital Government Award, among others.

The department has consecutively received the Gold Medal under the EMS Customer Service Quality Standard, with Bangladesh ranking third out of 189 countries in data ranking. The Airport Sorting Office at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport received an award in the Level-A Gold category in 2025.

Additional Director Generals Abu Taleb and Zakir Hasan Noor, along with Postmaster General Dhaka Mohammad Zohurul Alam, also addressed the event.
