Plans Underway to Reopen Mogalhat Land Port

Lalmonirhat:Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu announced that initiatives to reopen the abandoned Mogalhat land port will commence once an agreement is reached with the neighboring country. Necessary infrastructure will also be constructed as part of the reopening process.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Dulu emphasized the government's commitment to resolving development and infrastructure issues in Lalmonirhat district, particularly concerning the Teesta River and the local airport. He highlighted these efforts during a discussion at the Mogalhat land port site in Sadar upazila, Lalmonirhat.

The Minister stated that the government's objective is to ease the lives of Lalmonirhat residents through improved communication and infrastructure. He underscored that both small-scale and major projects are crucial for the public's benefit and that these initiatives have been ongoing since the current government took office.

Minister Dulu also mentioned the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Lalmonirhat on November 19. The Prime Minister's visit aims to evaluate the 'Alokita Lalmonirhat' social initiative and its impact on the local community. The experience gained from this initiative is intended to be applied nationwide, and the visit is expected to further enhance the area's development prospects.

State Minister for Shipping Rajib Ahsan, speaking as a special guest, noted that reopening the Mogalhat land port would enable cost-effective transportation of goods, such as stone and coal, and boost export opportunities. He stressed that any developments would be based on mutual consent and shared interests, with proposals formulated after discussions with the leadership of the respective countries.

The event, presided over by Chairman of the Land Port Authority Mohammad Manjarul Mannan, was attended by Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Rashedul Haque Prodhan, Superintendent of Police Md Asaduzzaman, and District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, among others.
