Dhaka:A special cleanliness and mosquito control campaign was held at Dhaka University on Saturday, organized as part of a pre-announced program by the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), DU unit.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the campaign was executed by the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) with cooperation from the university administration and the initiation of the DU JCD unit. The event commenced at the TSC premises around 9 am, with DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam as the chief guest and DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ABM Obaidul Islam inaugurating the event.
Present at the event were DU Pro-Vice-Chancellors, the Proctor, and leaders of the JCD. Abdus Salam, addressing the gathering, highlighted the historical role of Dhaka University in the country and encouraged its teachers and students to lead positive changes in Bangladesh. He referenced Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's 'Clean City, Green City' vision, noting the installation of 200 dustbins on campus to maintain cleanliness.
Salam emphasized the need for students to prevent waste disposal on roads and around campus, and suggested regulating floating vendors near key areas like TSC and Shahbagh to maintain cleanliness. He proposed creating a list of floating vendors for identification purposes to help manage these areas effectively.
DU VC Prof Dr ABM Obaidul Islam urged students to cultivate a personal sense of responsibility in maintaining campus cleanliness. He stated that cleanliness should be an ongoing commitment rather than a one-day initiative and encouraged students to ensure no waste remains after campus events.
The campaign continued with a rally, joined by the guests, JCD leaders, and cleaning workers, moving towards the Arts Building. They also inaugurated newly installed dustbins and carried out cleaning activities in various campus areas.
