Seven Detained at Dhaka Airport with Gold, Phones, and Laptops

Dhaka:The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) detained seven individuals during three separate operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the officers seized approximately 781.3 grams of gold jewelry, 10 mobile phones, two laptops, and three cartons of cigarettes. Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan, Superintendent of Police (Operations) of the Airport Armed Police Battalion, provided details of the operations.

In the first operation, APBn officers noticed a group attempting to flee near the airport's northern roundabout. Five individuals were detained, and searches revealed 484.2 grams of gold jewelry, two laptops, eight mobile phones, and three cartons of cigarettes. The detainees were identified as Tofazzal Hossain, Jasim Uddin, Arafat Hossain, Arif, and Md Alamin Gazi.

The second operation led to the detention of Rupban Begum near Canopy No. 2 in the airport's arrival area. Following a search, 98.7 grams of gold jewelry and a mobile phone were recovered.

In the third operation, M A Matin was detained at the main entrance. A subsequent search recovered 198.4 grams of gold jewelry and a mobile phone.

During questioning, the detainees claimed the gold had been smuggled into Bangladesh by unidentified passengers, and they were involved with airport-based smuggling syndicates. Three cases were filed with the Airport Police Station against the detainees.

Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan stated that the Airport APBn is actively working to prevent smuggling and other crimes, emphasizing their commitment to curbing illegal activities, including gold and narcotics smuggling.
