Dhaka:Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has taken a significant step to enhance cleanliness by installing 200 new dustbins on the Dhaka University campus. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve sanitation and combat mosquito-borne diseases across the city.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the installation of the dustbins coincided with a special cleanliness and mosquito-control drive conducted across 75 wards in the capital. This initiative is part of DSCC's weekly "Cleaning Day" program aimed at reducing dengue, air pollution, and urban waste.

During the inauguration ceremony at Dhaka University's Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), DSCC Administrator Freedom Fighter Md. Abdus Salam urged students to actively participate in keeping the city clean. He highlighted the university's historical role in leading national change and emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in key areas like the Shaheed Minar, TSC, and Shahbagh.

The city corporation is prepared to deploy additional cleaners if necessary to ensure the campus remains tidy. The event was part of an ongoing effort to combat the peak dengue season, following directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The program included various activities such as tree planting, distributing fogger machines, and conducting mosquito eradication efforts. An awareness rally was also held, starting from TSC and concluding at the Aparajeyo Bangla sculpture.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam and other dignitaries, including DU unit Chhatra Dal leaders, participated in the program. A similar rally took place in Mugda, with notable attendees including the State Minister for Railway Ministry and Road Transport and Highways Division, Habibur Rashid Habib.

Following the rally, participants inspected the Manda Canal and engaged in a cleanup and mosquito control drive, also planting trees at Haidar Ali School and College. Across all 75 DSCC wards, regional officers led initiatives to spray mosquito repellents and perform various sanitation tasks, involving local leaders and residents.
