Dhaka:A man was injured after being allegedly struck on the head with a firearm during a dispute at Bangla Motor on Thursday night. The altercation also involved the firing of two blank shots.
According to United News of Bangladesh, police have detained four individuals, including Ferdous Ahmed Simon, an expelled former Jubo Dal convener. The incident took place around 810 pm in an alley near the old petrol pump at the Bangla Motor intersection under Hatirjheel Police Station.
The injured man, identified as Sohan, 45, resides in New Eskaton. Police reported that the argument between Sohan and Simon over a local issue escalated, resulting in Simon allegedly hitting Sohan with the firearm's butt and leaving him bleeding. Simon then allegedly fired two blank shots before fleeing.
Sohan was transported to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 1030 pm, according to Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Police Outpost.
Hatirjheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman confirmed the detention of Simon and three others. He stated that a case is being processed in relation to the incident.
In response to the event, local BNP leaders and activists organized a procession in the Bangla Motor area. Authorities have since increased police presence at the scene.
