Sylhet:A youth was killed in a clash between two groups over a longstanding dispute in the Silam area of South Surma upazila on Friday afternoon.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased was identified as Russell, 23, son of Sharuk Mia from Silam area. The incident occurred after Jumma prayers, leading to increased tension in the locality.

Muglabazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Ershadul Haque Bhuiyan reported that Russell suffered critical injuries during the clash and was transported to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors.

Local residents noted that the altercation stemmed from a prior dispute, escalating into a physical confrontation that resulted in Russell's critical injuries. This incident follows an earlier violent clash in August at Silam Chak Bazar between the Sheikh and Shah groups, which was over control of a shrine, a mosque's waqf estate, and money from donation boxes.
