Rajshahi:Speakers at a meeting today highlighted the importance of transforming the population into a valuable asset through the integration of technology and skills.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the speakers noted that productivity in both goods and services sectors can be enhanced by employing technology, innovation, and skills more efficiently. This was discussed during a meeting organized for National Productivity Day-2026 in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in Rajshahi.
The event was organized by the Rajshahi District Administration, with this year's theme being 'Integration of innovation, technology and skills to increase.' Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam served as the chief guest, and Rafiqul Islam, Deputy General Manager of Rajshahi BSCIC, chaired the session. Other notable speakers included Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Hasen Ali and Additional Deputy Commissioner Sabur Ali. A keynote paper was presented by Md. Abdur Razzak, Deputy Manager of Rajshahi BSCIC District Office.
Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam emphasized that true productivity extends beyond industrial production to include providing quality services efficiently and minimizing resource wastage. He noted that while natural or mineral resources are limited, the large population is a significant asset. He suggested that by sending a skilled workforce abroad, the country could increase remittance earnings significantly.
Highlighting Rajshahi's economic potential, Kazi Shahidul referred to the city as the 'Mango City' and noted its contribution to 20 percent of the country's total fish production. He proposed the establishment of mango and food processing zones and fisheries-based industries in Rajshahi to create employment and enable the export of processed products.
Furthermore, he pointed out opportunities in developing young entrepreneurs in the Hi-Tech Park and tourism sectors, which could generate new employment. He stressed the importance of training young people to adapt to artificial intelligence, automation, and modern technology.
Emphasizing safe and healthy production environments, he advocated for using automation and technology to ensure quality production at lower costs in the industry. The day's events were inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, who released balloons and festoons on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner's office.
