Chattogram:The Karnaphuli River is a dynamic hub of economic activity and daily life, where fishing boats and sampans navigate its waters. Fishermen cast nets, while others transport ship provisions, highlighting the river's role in supporting livelihoods.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the river spans 75 kilometers from the Kaptai Hydraulic Dam to the Bay of Bengal. It is pivotal to the national economy, centered around Chattogram Port, the country's main seaport, driving significant economic infrastructure.

Despite its natural beauty, the river represents a daily struggle for many. Abul Bashar, a sampan boatman, emphasizes that the river's bounty directly affects the local community's well-being. Sampans are crucial for daily commutes, particularly for residents of Karnaphuli upazila and West Patiya.

Economic activity flourishes along the river, with small engine boats servicing large ships with essential supplies like ice and salt. Habibur Mia, who works in this sector, notes the importance of these activities for their livelihood.

The Fishery-Ghat, the largest sea fish wholesale center, is a focal point for the fishing industry. Fish merchants rely on the river's catch to sustain their businesses. Additionally, sand-laden bulkheads highlight the river's role in sand transport, contributing significantly to the local economy.

Mohammad Shahjahan, a visitor, reflects that the true beauty of the Karnaphuli lies in its ability to sustain thousands of livelihoods on its banks, underscoring its importance beyond its picturesque scenery.
