Dhaka:Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has assured that political identity will not influence the BCS examinations, recruitment, or other government processes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister addressed the issue during an emergency press conference at the Home Ministry, responding to concerns regarding the gazette notification for the 49th BCS (Special Education) cadre appointments. He emphasized that there would be no discrimination based on political identity in any examination or recruitment process.
The minister mentioned a social media post where an individual threatened self-harm because his name was initially in the gazette but later omitted from the final list after verification. He clarified that gazette notifications could be issued in phases and that the date for joining the service was still pending.
Addressing concerns about political bias, the minister referenced a person who was previously affiliated with a banned student organization at Dhaka University. He reassured that this individual's political identity was not a factor in the appointment process.
Minister Ahmed explained that police verification is standard in recruitment, and candidates with serious criminal allegations might be excluded. Legal provisions may apply if a candidate has a conviction until resolved.
He highlighted past issues with public service appointments and reiterated that verification is a routine procedure under all governments. If anyone believes they were unfairly denied an appointment due to allegations, they can appeal to the ministry for an investigation.
The minister urged against spreading misinformation that could provoke university students or create political instability. He affirmed that further gazette notifications for the 49th BCS are forthcoming, as a scheduled notification for 46 individuals was pending the President's signature.
He called for patience and cautioned against actions that could destabilize the situation, stressing the importance of allowing the recruitment process to proceed without interference.
