Chattogram:A month-long breast cancer awareness programme commenced today in Chattogram with a procession and various awareness activities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the initiative is a collaboration between Chattogram City Corporation, private healthcare institution CSCR, and PGS Academia, a postgraduate surgical education and training institute. The programme was inaugurated by City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain at 11 am at the Chattogram Medical College premises, who then led a procession through several major city streets before returning to the starting point.
During the event, Mayor Hossain emphasized the collective responsibility of ensuring women's health and the need for societal involvement in raising breast cancer awareness. He called for coordinated efforts to transform Chattogram into a "Breast Cancer Aware City" and urged residents to display pink lights at their homes or businesses as a symbol of solidarity.
Notable figures such as Prof Dr. Omar Faruk Yusuf, Vice-Chancellor of Chattogram Medical University, and other prominent local leaders participated in the procession. A BRTA double-decker "Pink Bus" attracted attention at the event's conclusion. This bus will operate as a mobile breast cancer screening service every Saturday in October, from 3 pm to 6 pm, under the guidance of specialist surgeons.
Additionally, throughout October, CSCR at Prabortak Mor will offer free breast cancer screening and counselling for women from 3 pm to 6 pm.
