President Calls on Journalists to Uphold Professionalism and Public Trust

Dhaka:President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged television journalists to maintain professionalism and earn public trust in their duties.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the President made this appeal during a meeting with a delegation from the Broadcast Journalists Center (BJC) at the Bangabhaban. President's Press Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam shared these details.

The President emphasized the importance of working towards nation-building and safeguarding public interest. He acknowledged the media's active role in the democratic struggle and requested journalists' support in institutionalizing democracy.

Reflecting on the past, the President mentioned the crucial support from journalists during the fight for democracy and expressed his resolve to support media workers who faced oppression during the fascist regime.

He also highlighted the need to move past political vengeance to achieve political and economic stability, suggesting that the country could have advanced like developed nations if democratic practices were prioritized.

The President called for a Media Reform Commission to address media challenges and proposed that policymakers adopt a long-term vision to resolve existing issues. He underscored the importance of quality standards in broadcasting and encouraged self-reliant digitalization and monetization for television channels to overcome challenges.

BJC representatives stated their commitment to the welfare of journalists, providing training and facilities such as health assistance and insurance. The President assured them of support for their welfare activities and advised the implementation of programs to boost income.

Present at the meeting were Fahim Ahmed, Ilias Hossain, Talat Mamun, Mahmud Hasan, Shariful Islam Khan, Shah Azizur Rahman Kiran, Zamanul Ferdous Manu, Belayet Hossain, Naila Parvin Pia, Saiful Shakil, and the President's Secretary, Press Secretary, and Assistant Military Secretary.
