1,780 Farmers Receive Cards in Naogaon Initiative

Naogaon:A total of 1,780 farmers in the district have been issued farmer cards as part of the first phase of a government initiative designed to provide financial support and other agricultural services.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the nationwide farmer card distribution program virtually from Fulgazi upazila in the Feni district. The distribution event in Naogaon took place at the Atrai Upazila Parishad auditorium, focusing on farmers from Patishar Block under Muniyari union of Atrai upazila.

The event was attended by Naogaon-6 (Atrai-Raninagar) constituency lawmaker Sheikh Rezaul Karim, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, and Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Md Monzur Rahman, among other officials.

DAE officials reported that among the card recipients are 116 landless farmers, 654 marginal farmers, 680 small farmers, 256 medium-scale farmers, and 74 large farmers. Deputy Director Monzur Rahman also noted that 1,450 of these farmers have already completed the process of opening bank accounts.

Each cardholder is set to receive Taka 2,500 as cash financial assistance. The DAE aims to expand the farmer card program to include 679,976 farmers across 99 unions in the Naogaon district.
