Dhaka:British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, expressed the United Kingdom's commitment to enhancing tourism in Bangladesh, emphasizing the country's significant tourism potential.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Cooke noted that the UK seeks to contribute by encouraging investment, strengthening commercial partnerships, and uniting businesses and institutions to create sustainable economic value for both nations. Her remarks were made during a reception hosted by the British High Commission in Dhaka, marking World Tourism Day 2026.
The event, supported by Mana Bay and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), focused on boosting Bangladesh's tourism and hospitality sector through increased investment. It was attended by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat and representatives from various sectors.
Mana Bay, a British-backed investment, was highlighted as a testament to long-term investor confidence in Bangladesh. With over USD 250 million invested, Mana Bay has developed one of the country's largest integrated tourism destinations, including the Mana Bay Water Park and the 95-room Mana Bay Resort.
Sasheen Hasan, Managing Director of Mana Bay, emphasized their investment as a reflection of confidence in Bangladesh's future and its tourism potential. Meanwhile, Ashwani Nayar of IHG highlighted the company's strategic engagement and expansion in Bangladesh as a UK-headquartered global hospitality firm, underscoring the mutual benefits for both nations.
The British High Commission in Dhaka underlined the diverse attractions Bangladesh offers, including cultural, heritage, and natural beauty, which can significantly contribute to economic growth, job creation, and community development.
