Narail:Police discovered the body of a newlywed woman at her in-laws' residence in Ramchandrapur village, Narail Sadar upazila, on Wednesday morning, just one month after her marriage.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased, Popi Khanam, originally from Barishal district, was married to Arafat Sheikh, an assistant to a truck driver and the son of Tipu Sultan from the same village. Arafat Sheikh was taken into custody by police for interrogation following the incident.
Local sources and family members revealed that Popi was Arafat's third wife, and altercations between the couple occurred on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. During these altercations, Arafat allegedly physically assaulted Popi.
Her in-laws claimed that Popi committed suicide by hanging herself with a scarf after the assault. However, there is local suspicion regarding whether her death was self-inflicted or a planned murder.
Ajay Kumar Kundu, Inspector (Investigation) at Narail Sadar Police Station, stated that legal proceedings would commence upon receiving a formal complaint. The body has been sent to Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
