Dhaka:State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir expressed optimism that Bangladesh and India will navigate their existing challenges through dialogue and discussions, highlighting the potential for a positive future and a visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Kobir mentioned that discussions about the visit took place during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi. He expressed a positive outlook on future possibilities, stating that the timing of the visit would be decided through mutual discussion when the environment is conducive.
Kobir emphasized Bangladesh's commitment to working in a forward-looking and respectful manner with India on issues of mutual interest. He also described the recent meeting with Trivedi as cordial and productive.
Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi characterized the state of Bangladesh-India relations as 'absolutely positive' and confirmed that the invitation for Prime Minister Rahman's visit remains open. He acknowledged political challenges on both sides but stressed that work is ongoing and everything remains possible.
The discussion between Kobir and Trivedi focused on cooperation for mutually beneficial outcomes for the peoples of both countries. Trivedi praised Kobir's openness and vision in addressing issues of mutual interest and conveyed his congratulations on Kobir's new role as State Minister.
The meeting also touched upon recent bilateral, regional, and international matters, including discussions from the 81st UNGA in New York. India reiterated its desire to maintain a positive, constructive, and forward-looking relationship with Bangladesh, with a willingness to address all bilateral issues through structured mechanisms.
