Bogura:Four leaders and activists of the banned Awami Swechchhasebak League, including Sazedur Rahman Shahin, the Bogura district president, have been remanded in police custody for three days following a court order on Tuesday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the District Detective Branch (DB) of police apprehended the four individuals from the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar road on Monday night. Alongside Sazedur Rahman Shahin, 52, the arrestees include Syed Abu Zafar Siddique Ripon, 60, the district unit's senior vice-president; Sabbir Hossain Nirjhon, 29, the organizing secretary of the city Swechchhasebak League; and Ferdous Hossain, 26, an activist of the group.

The police presented the individuals in court on Tuesday afternoon, seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation. However, the court granted a three-day remand instead.

Bogura District DB Police Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Bahar stated that the four had been evading capture for some time. They had rented a microbus in Dhaka and were traveling to Cox's Bazar for a tour when police, acting on a tip-off, tracked and arrested them around 10 pm on Monday.

Police have reported that more than 15 cases have been filed against Shahin, over 10 against Sabbir Hossain Nirjhon, and more than two against Ferdous Hossain.

In a related incident, members of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) threw eggs at the four as they were being taken to the court premises. This occurred around 515 pm Tuesday at the Bogura Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, where JCD activists from Government Azizul Haque College and Shah Sultan College targeted the arrestees and chanted slogans against them.
