Chinese Envoy Yao Wen Meets Bangladesh Opposition Leader

Dhaka:Outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen met with Leader of the Opposition and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at his official residence on Tuesday for a farewell call.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the meeting focused on issues of mutual interest and bilateral relations. Both parties expressed hope for strengthening the economic, political, trade, diplomatic, and friendly ties between Bangladesh and China in the future.

The leaders discussed the importance of accelerating bilateral cooperation, development, and progress. Jamaat leaders expressed gratitude to Yao Wen for his positive impact on Bangladesh's political affairs, particularly in fostering dialogue among political parties following the political changes after the July 2024 mass uprising.

The meeting with Shafiqur Rahman followed Yao Wen's farewell visit to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, where they discussed expanding trade, investment, and development cooperation between the two countries, as well as other issues of mutual interest, including the Rohingya crisis.

The meeting was attended by Chinese Deputy Chief of Mission Dr. Liu Yuyin, Cultural Counsellor Li Shaopeng, Attach© Liang Shuying, and Political Affairs Attach© Wang Daowei. From the Jamaat side, Nayeb-e-Ameer ATM Azharul Islam, Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar, and Assistant Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan were among those present.
