Sylhet:Dr. Mohummed Shofi Ullah Mazumder from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU).
According to United News of Bangladesh, the appointment was made through a notification issued by the Ministry of Education on Monday, following an order from the President. The document was signed by Assistant Secretary Md Sultan Ahmed of the ministry.
The notification states that President and Chancellor of Sylhet Agricultural University appointed Prof Dr Mohummad Shofi Ullah Mazumder for a four-year term under Section 10(1) of the Sylhet Agricultural University Act, 2006. Prof Shofi Ullah is currently a professor in the Department of Agricultural Extension and Information System at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University.
Previously, on October 17, 2024, Professor Dr Md Alimul Islam from the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene at Bangladesh Agricultural University was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Sylhet Agricultural University. However, a group of BNP-leaning teachers, officers, and employees have been protesting for the past two weeks, demanding his resignation due to allegations of irregularities and corruption.
The decision to appoint Prof Dr Mohummad Shofi Ullah Mazumder as the new Vice-Chancellor has come amid these ongoing protests.
