Dhaka:President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasized the need for united efforts to ensure equal rights and communal harmony among all religious and ethnic communities in Bangladesh. His call came during a meeting with a delegation from the Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Welfare Front at Bangabhaban.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the president highlighted the importance of equal rights and opportunities for all communities, including Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, and others, to build a harmonious nation. He urged collaboration to overcome challenges left by previous administrations and to set the country on the right path.
The president expressed gratitude for the significant role played by the Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian communities in the success of the 13th parliamentary election. He discussed the government's commitment to ensuring equal participation of these communities in national development, mentioning the increased nomination of candidates from these groups for reserved women's seats.
He proposed forming a national committee with representatives from the Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian communities to coordinate with the government and address the communities' concerns effectively.
During the meeting, the delegation invited the president to visit the Durga Puja celebrations at Dhakeshwari Temple and Ramna Kali Temple in Dhaka, which he graciously accepted. The delegation also presented various demands, to which the president responded by stressing the need for collective efforts to address past deprivations and assured them that their issues would be considered seriously.
The delegation comprised government officials and community representatives, including Sh Ching Prue Jerry, Bijon Kanti Sarker, Tapan Chandra Majumder, Advocate John Gomes, Sushil Chandra Barua, and others. The president's military secretary, secretary, and press secretary were also present.
