Kuala Lumpur:Kelantan The government has been urged to allocate funds in Budget 2027 for the construction of a dedicated Muay Thai stadium in Kelantan, aiming to enhance talent development and boost sports tourism in the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muay Thai coach Mohamad Ridhwan Mat Zain emphasized the importance of such a facility for creating a structured development pathway. The proposed stadium would offer comprehensive amenities for fighters at all levels, from novice to international, facilitating both training and event hosting.
Currently, the absence of a fixed venue poses challenges for holding regular tournaments, as most events occur in open areas where the ring needs to be set up and dismantled each time. A dedicated stadium would simplify event organization and serve as a benchmark for fighters.
The facility would also function as a training hub, equipped with a physiotherapy centre and full training equipment, essential for effective athlete preparation. Overseas, Muay Thai venues provide extensive facilities, enabling frequent event organization and attracting youth participation, which can help address social issues.
Mohamad Ridhwan also noted the potential for turning Kelantan into a sports tourism destination, attracting promoters, fighters, and fans both locally and internationally. This development could positively impact local hospitality, food and beverage businesses, and employment while encouraging tourists to extend their visits.
Muay Thai athlete Fakhru Zaim Mohd Firdaus, 22, highlighted that a dedicated stadium would offer a comfortable environment for athletes to enhance their performance and inspire more young people to pursue the sport. Similarly, Mohamad Danial Hakim Mohd Affandi, 22, expressed hope for the stadium's realization, stressing the necessity of comprehensive training facilities for effective training and competition preparation.
