Thousands Participate in Malaysia Cleanup Day 2026 Nationwide

Kuala Nerus:Thousands of people across Malaysia came together today to take part in Malaysia Cleanup Day 2026, aiming to foster a culture of cleanliness and environmental sustainability.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event was organized by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government in collaboration with local authorities. This annual initiative seeks to empower communities to manage solid waste and maintain public facilities without relying solely on government intervention.

In Terengganu, around 1,000 participants, including government agencies, educational institutions, and local community members, participated in the Clean Terengganu Programme at Teluk Ketapang, Kuala Nerus. The program, which started at 730 am, was supported by staff from various local government offices and the Royal Malay Regiment. Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah, chairman of the State Local Government, Housing and Health Committee, emphasized the importance of promoting cleanliness practices and public awareness.

In Perak, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, chairman of the State Housing and Local Government Committee, reported that 4,000 individuals participated in HCM events organized by 14 local authorities. The program aimed to enhance public awareness of cleanliness and included activities like exhibitions and recycling services.

In Kelantan, the Kota Bharu-Islamic City Municipal Council hosted the HCM program at Pasir Tumboh Islamic Satellite Town, attracting about 100 participants. Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rahman Yunus stressed the need for cooperation to maintain cleanliness and foster community involvement.

Meanwhile, in Penang, 5,000 participants joined the state-level HCM event at 40 locations. State Local Government Committee chairman H'ng Mooi Lye highlighted the increased participation compared to the previous year and the significant amount of solid waste collected.

In Selangor, the Banting Public Market Gotong-Royong program featured various activities, with private sector worker Hafiz Sani noting the benefits of recycling initiatives in promoting environmental conservation and community cohesion.
