Khulna:Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) has launched a cleanliness drive at its two temporary campuses to combat the spread of dengue and chikungunya by eliminating potential breeding sites for Aedes mosquitoes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the campaign took place at Temporary Campus-1 at 11 am and Temporary Campus-2 at noon. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Asaduzzaman Sarker led the activities at both locations, joined by Acting Registrar Md Rezaul Islam, deans of various faculties, teachers, students, officers, and employees.
Participants in the drive focused on removing accumulated waste and cleaning areas with stagnant water that could serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Professor Asaduzzaman highlighted the alarming rise in dengue cases in Khulna and other regions, which has increased the burden on hospitals. He noted that several university members had already been affected by dengue, emphasizing the need for maintaining cleanliness to prevent further infections.
The university authorities have committed to continuing regular cleanliness initiatives along with other measures aimed at eradicating Aedes mosquito breeding sites. They urged the university community to stay vigilant and prevent water accumulation in open spaces and other potential breeding areas.
