Dhaka:President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged Bangladesh Open University (BOU) to enhance its distance learning activities, ensuring they become more extensive, quality-focused, and up-to-date for students outside the traditional education framework.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the President made this appeal during a meeting with a BOU delegation led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, who visited him for a courtesy call.
During the discussion, the Vice-Chancellor extended congratulations and best wishes to the President on his new role. He also updated the President on the university¾¢s activities, which include educational programs for approximately 350,000 students, its Media Centre, academic schools, study centres, international educational programs, and regional centres. He requested the President's support in modernizing the university.
President Alamgir acknowledged the significant role of Bangladesh Open University in educating marginalized groups and those outside the conventional education system, such as working individuals, homemakers, dropouts, and residents of remote areas.
Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor invited the President, who is also the university's Chancellor, to be the chief guest at the next year's convocation. The President accepted the invitation, promising support for the university's development and quality education enhancement.
The meeting was attended by the President's secretaries and senior officials.
