Bhairab:The Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate in Dhaka (East) has uncovered an alleged VAT evasion totaling Tk 35.66 crore by J.I. Impex Ltd, a business located in Bhairab, Kishoreganj.
According to United News of Bangladesh, a preventive team from the commissionerate, including a joint commissioner and officials from its headquarters and Narsingdi VAT Division, conducted a raid on the establishment on September 8. This action was based on secret information, as stated in a press release.
During the operation, the team seized a variety of commercial documents and records under VAT Form 12.3. These included 12 clip files, 98 bundles of commercial documents, 22 plastic folders, and a computer CPU. Additionally, they confiscated four tally books, four registers, a bundle of truck rental documents, two memo files, 10 bundles of truck drivers' expenditure details, and computer-printed sales documents signed by company officials.
The commissionerate reported that upon examining the seized documents, officials discovered 72 folders and files containing details of monthly supplies and sales conducted by the company to various establishments between 2023 and September 2026. After thorough scrutiny and verification, the documents revealed sales amounting to Tk 621,74,37,134, approximately Tk 621.74 crore.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the VAT evasion amounted to Tk 35,65,83,798, or about Tk 35.66 crore, according to information from the commissionerate.
