Savar:A court has placed a 20-year-old man, Marun, on a two-day remand in connection with the murder of Sub-Inspector (SI) Altaf Hossain from the police's Special Branch in Savar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the remand order was issued by Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Tanvirul Islam after police requested a seven-day remand while presenting the accused in court.
The incident occurred on September 5 around 7:30 pm when an altercation between an auto-rickshaw driver and local residents erupted over parking issues in front of a garage in the Bordeshi Paschimpara area. SI Altaf Hossain, who was in the vicinity while on leave, intervened to defuse the situation but was attacked by the accused.
In an attempt to escape the attack, Hossain sought refuge in 'Grand Fashion,' a shop owned by his son nearby. However, at around 8 pm, the accused, armed with locally-made weapons, attacked the establishment.
Police reported that the attackers severely beat Altaf Hossain with rods, hammers, and sticks, leaving him severely injured. When his son, Ariful Islam, tried to help, he was also attacked with sharp weapons, resulting in critical injuries.
Local residents eventually rescued both victims and transported them to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital. Altaf Hossain was declared dead by doctors, and Ariful Islam was admitted in critical condition.
The case was filed by Altaf's widow, Sheuli Pervin, at the Savar Police Station.
