Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's four-day visit to the United States, where he attended the United Nations General Assembly, has been described as highly successful and fruitful by his adviser and spokesperson, Mahdi Amin.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Mahdi Amin briefed reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, highlighting that the Prime Minister's visit elevated Bangladesh's position on the global stage. He noted that the Prime Minister emphasized Bangladesh's interests, sovereignty, and potential throughout the UN meetings.
During the visit, Rahman participated in 30 programs, including multilateral meetings and eight major UN events, delivering speeches at seven, notably his historic address to the UN. Two high-level events on the Rohingya crisis and universal health care were organized by Bangladesh, alongside participation in events focused on climate change and healthcare.
Mahdi Amin remarked on the Prime Minister's commitment to outlining policies for various sectors, such as education, healthcare, and technology, which will be implemented gradually. He also emphasized the Prime Minister's call for world peace and Bangladesh's firm stance on the Palestine issue, highlighted by a walkout during the Israeli prime minister's speech.
The visit included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Civil Nuclear Cooperation with the US. Rahman held bilateral meetings with leaders from 11 countries, prioritizing Bangladesh's interests and energy security. Discussions with ASEAN states and organizations were held to address the Rohingya crisis, receiving pledges of support.
Responding to questions about recent domestic incidents, Mahdi Amin confirmed swift government action, including the arrest of nine individuals following an attack on a healthcare center in Mirpur. He assured that the government remains vigilant and committed to enforcing the law efficiently.
