Dhaka:Police have arrested Shahriar, identified as the alleged mastermind behind the attack and vandalism at content creator Salman Muqtadir's Brownfish Studio and the surrounding land in the capital's ECB Chattar area.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Shahriar was apprehended in the Minto Road area on Sunday afternoon, as confirmed by Nazmul Hoque, Assistant Commissioner of the DMP's Cantonment Zone. This arrest brings the total number of people detained in connection with the incident to four. The arrest was made by Cantonment police based on secret information.
Earlier, two individuals were detained at the scene late Saturday night, with another person detained later in a police operation. The three previously detained individuals were identified as Md Mamun from the Bhasantek slum and Aslam and Munna from the Majumdar Mor area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Gias Uddin of Cantonment Police Station stated that the attack resulted from a dispute between New Gini Properties Limited, the landowner where the studio is located, and other landowners in the area. Police reported that Salman Muqtadir had rented a floor from New Gini Properties for his studio, which was vandalized during the attack.
Salman Muqtadir alleged that a group arrived in two trucks and attacked the studio late Saturday night. In a live broadcast from the Brownfish Studio Facebook page, he stated that the studio had been attacked and completely destroyed. He later suggested that the attackers' primary target might have been the property owner, who allegedly refused to pay extortion money.
OC Gias Uddin further explained that New Gini Properties had erected a gate on the land, restricting access for others. This action reportedly angered people from the opposing side, prompting them to confront the situation. He assured that the operation to arrest others involved in the incident is ongoing.
