Kushtia:A probe into alleged recruitment irregularities at Islamic University during the Awami League regime has come to a halt due to internal disagreements among the committee members tasked with the investigation.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the committee was established in March 2025 to investigate the allegations and was expected to deliver its findings within 90 days. However, the process has been delayed and the committee convener, Professor Farukuzzaman, has resigned, with no replacement appointed.
The committee included Professor Farukuzzaman as convener, and members Professor Abul Kalam Azad, Professor Rashiduzzaman, Professor Abdul Bari, and Deputy Registrar Masudul Haque Talukder as the member secretary. The investigation faced challenges in data collection and internal coordination, leading to the formation of three sub-committees, only one of which completed its report.
Disagreements arose over how to submit the findings. Professor Farukuzzaman wanted to submit the reports from the sub-committees as they were, while other members preferred a consolidated report. This disagreement escalated into conflicts, prompting Professor Farukuzzaman to resign.
Since his resignation, there has been no attempt to appoint a new convener or reconstitute the committee. Professor Farukuzzaman explained that operational issues and a lack of consensus on the report's submission led to his resignation. He dismissed claims of external pressure and emphasized that he had agreed to the role at the request of the former vice-chancellor, but received no cooperation from other members.
Islamic University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AKM Motinur Rahman acknowledged the situation and stated that he would take appropriate action regarding the stalled probe.
