Mirpur:Physician-turned-politician Tasnim Jara warned that children may suffer significantly due to the vandalism at Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, which has disrupted routine immunisations.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Jara visited the severely damaged health centre, where vaccinations are now being administered outside, leading some families to leave due to overcrowding. She noted the loss of vaccination records and tablets, complicating the tracking of children's immunisation schedules.
Jara called for the health ministry's urgent intervention to compile recent and upcoming vaccination data to restore immunisation coverage. She stressed that without swift action, there is a heightened risk of infectious disease outbreaks.
Concerns were also raised about the working conditions for health staff, who currently lack access to washrooms and meal facilities. Jara urged the reopening of usable rooms to ensure effective healthcare delivery.
She questioned the absence of police during the prolonged vandalism, raising concerns about public trust in law enforcement. During her visit, Jara engaged with health workers to understand the challenges they face in providing healthcare under these conditions.
