Dhaka:Dubai: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman departed Dubai for Dhaka after concluding a five-day visit to New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. During his visit, he addressed issues of peace, democracy, climate action, humanitarian concerns, and sustainable development.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, an Emirates flight carrying the Prime Minister, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and their entourage left Dubai International Airport at 2:15 am local time. The flight is expected to arrive in Dhaka at 8:40 am.
While in New York, Prime Minister Rahman delivered his first address to the General Debate of the 81st UNGA and engaged in numerous bilateral and high-level meetings with international leaders, UN officials, and representatives from various organizations. These engagements focused on Bangladesh's national interests, including trade, energy security, and the Rohingya crisis.
During the four-day visit, Rahman participated in eight UNGA-related events, four high-level meetings, and 11 bilateral discussions. His interactions included discussions with the UN Secretary-General, the President of the World Bank Group, and leaders from countries such as Turkey, Bhutan, and the Maldives. Topics ranged from expanding economic cooperation to addressing climate change and global peace efforts.
Notably, Rahman emphasized the Rohingya crisis, advocating for their safe and dignified repatriation during meetings with UN officials. He also attended events on climate action, maternal health, and economic development, highlighting Bangladesh's strategies and commitments in these areas.
The Prime Minister's engagements extended to meetings with Middle Eastern leaders, where issues like worker protection, energy security, and investment in Bangladesh were discussed. Biman Bangladesh Airlines also advanced its aviation sector by signing an agreement to purchase 11 Boeing aircraft during this visit.
