Dhaka:In a significant move to assist raw jute exporters who earn their revenue entirely in foreign currency, Bangladesh Bank has extended the deadline for resolving classified loan issues and completing loan rescheduling applications to December 31, 2026.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the central bank issued a circular to the managing directors and chief executive officers of all scheduled banks, outlining new policy support to address disruptions in the raw jute trade. This circular allows exporters with loans classified as Sub-standard, Doubtful, or Bad/Loss as of September 30, 2026, to apply for rescheduling by depositing a 2 percent down payment of their total loan balance.

Exporters are required to submit their applications by September 30, 2026, and banks are obligated to process and resolve all applications by the new December deadline. The previous deadline required applications by June 30, 2026, based on the loan balance as of December 31, 2025. However, the central bank recognized that complexities in the raw jute export sector made it difficult for many exporters to meet the initial requirements.

The circular, signed by Gazi Md. Mahfuzul Islam, Director of the Banking Regulation and Policy Department-1, clarifies that all other terms and conditions from earlier directives remain unchanged and that the new guidelines are effective immediately.
