Dhaka Stock Exchange Turnover Surpasses Tk 800 Crore After Over a Month

Dhaka:Turnover at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) exceeded the Tk 800 crore mark on Wednesday for the first time in 36 days, with shares worth Tk 844 crore being traded, marking the highest daily turnover this month.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the last time the turnover surpassed Tk 800 crore was on August 18, reaching Tk 998 crore. Since then, it had gradually decreased, dropping to the Tk 400 crore range by August 27. The beginning of September saw daily turnover around Tk 500 crore, occasionally reaching the Tk 700 crore range, but only this week did it rise to Tk 788 crore on Monday and Tk 791 crore on Tuesday before achieving Wednesday's increase.

The DSE indices showed positive movement as the turnover increased. The benchmark DSEX rose by 55 points, the Shariah index gained 10 points, and the DS30 index added 16 points. Most listed companies experienced price rises, with 246 gaining, 102 declining, and 37 unchanged. Unique Hotel and Resort PLC led the gainers, with its share price rising nearly 10 percent, from Tk 40.20 on Tuesday to Tk 44.20 on Wednesday.

However, mutual funds did not follow the overall market trend and remained near their lowest levels. AB Bank 1st Mutual Fund, Reliance One, and ICB AMCL CMSF Golden Jubilee Mutual Fund each fell by more than 5 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also experienced gains, with its CASPI index increasing by 54 points. A total of 100 companies saw price increases, while 71 declined and 20 remained unchanged. CSE turnover went up by Tk 5 crore from the previous session, with trades worth Tk 24 crore, an increase from Tk 19 crore the day before. Leading gainers on the CSE included ICB AMCL Second Mutual Fund, Rupali Insurance Company Ltd, and Index Agro Industries Ltd, each up by around 10 percent. In contrast, Chartered Life Insurance PLC, Continental Insurance PLC, and Agni Systems PLC each experienced a nearly 10 percent drop.
