Dhaka: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir on Sunday expressed confidence that Bangladesh-China relations would continue to grow in the coming days. He expressed the confidence when Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen paid a farewell call on the State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the State Minister appreciated the Ambassador's role in strengthening Bangladesh-China relations. He highlighted the Ambassador's work in Bangladesh, which had received significant visibility, and praised his contribution to the successful visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to China.
The State Minister mentioned that during Ambassador Wen's tenure, Bangladesh-China relations have been elevated to a Shared Community level, with new mechanisms, including a State Minister-level 2+2 mechanism, set to commence. The Ambassador stated that it had been an honour to serve in Bangladesh for three years and nine months.
He congratulated Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the United Nations General Assembly, describing it as a proud moment for Bangladesh. The Ambassador reaffirmed China's commitment to supporting Bangladesh in its development journey.
He also informed that the Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) is eager to visit Bangladesh at the end of this year. He noted the Minister's strong connections to Bangladesh, recalling that his father served as China's Ambassador to Bangladesh and presented his credentials to President Ziaur Rahman.
The State Minister thanked the Ambassador for his service and wished him success in his new assignment, expressing hope that their paths would cross again. He added that Bangladesh was delighted to have had Ambassador Wen serving in the country.
