Cumilla: Yashat Shahriar Opratim, the 13-year-old son of a Cumilla University teacher who was found dead in a jungle in Sadar Dakkhin upazila on Saturday, was laid to rest on Sunday. He was buried at the family graveyard following his second namaz-e-janaza at Gondamati Eidgah in Kotbari of the upazila.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the first janaza took place at the Comilla University campus around 10:00am. During the ceremony, Opratim's father, KM Firoz Shahriar, expressed his grief while addressing the mourners before the prayer. His heartfelt words, asking for forgiveness for his son if he had ever hurt anyone, moved many to tears.
Teachers, students, officials, employees of the university, and local residents gathered on the university campus to pay their last respects and mourn Opratim's death. Opratim was the only son of Firoz Shahriar and Dr. Nahida Begum, an associate professor of the Department of Bangla at Comilla University. He was discovered dead in a jungle in the Kotbari area on Saturday.
Opratim, a seventh-grade student at Cumilla Border Guard Public School, left home on Friday around 3:30pm with his mother's iPhone, intending to take photographs with friends. When he did not return, his family began searching for him, and his father filed a general diary with Sadar Dakkhin Police Station.
Meanwhile, three individuals-Tuhin, Anas, and Fahim-were detained by police for questioning in connection with Opratim's death.
