Samarkand: Bangladesh achieved significant victories in both the Open and women's sections during the third round of the FIDE 46th Chess Olympiad currently taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in the Open section held last Friday, Bangladesh overcame Puerto Rico with a score of 3.5-0.5. International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman, International Master Manon Reja Neer, and FIDE Master Sakline Mostafa Sajid secured wins against Puerto Rico's Almedina Ortiz Edgardo, Rodriguez Santiago Jaime, and Zilleruelo Irizarry Diego, respectively. FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia drew his match against Sebastian Toro Cruz, concluding Bangladesh's victory.
In the women's section, Bangladesh marked a 3-1 triumph over Cote D'Ivoire. Women FIDE Master Noshin Anjum, women candidate Master Walijah Ahmed, and women candidate Master Nusrat Jahan Alo defeated Cote D'Ivoire's Nde Atse Carine Noelly Marie, Yavo Tchetche Marie, and Camara Ruth Liliane, respectively. However, Women FIDE Master Warsia Khusbu lost her game to Cote D'Ivoire's Women FIDE Master Ayemou Mazan Emmanuela Esther.
These victories have resulted in Bangladesh accumulating four points from three matches in both the Open and women's sections. Mutual Trust Bank (MTB), through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, has provided financial assistance to Bangladesh's teams participating in the Olympiad.
