Dhaka: A court here today sent four people to jail over their alleged participation in a flash procession by leaders and workers of the activities-banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations in Gulshan. The accused sent to jail are Sahim Uddin, 30, Tushar, 27, Sadman Sakib, 36, and Al Amin Mridha, 45.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police produced the accused before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka today, seeking to keep them in custody until the investigation is completed. After hearing the case, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ehsanul Islam ordered that they be sent to jail.
The case documents reveal that around 11:45 am on September 11, approximately 80 to 100 unidentified leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League and the activities-banned Bangladesh Awami League gathered on Road No. 3 in Gulshan. They brought out a procession while carrying explosive substances.
While proceeding towards Police Plaza, they allegedly exploded several crude bombs with the intention of undermining the government's image and creating sabotage in the area, causing panic among people. A case was subsequently filed with Gulshan Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
