Dhaka: The Prime Minister's Education Assistance Trust is set to provide one-time medical grants to financially disadvantaged and academically deserving students from Class VI to undergraduate and equivalent levels who suffer significant injuries in accidents.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, eligible students can apply online for the grants for the September-October 2026 quarter through the Trust's e-Medical Grant Management System until 11:59 pm on October 31, as stated in a press release issued today. These grants are offered under the Guidelines for Providing One-time Financial Grants to Poor and Meritorious Students Seriously Injured in Accidents, 2020.
The grant eligibility requires that the student's hospital treatment for accident-related serious injuries must have occurred during the fiscal year in which the notice was issued or the preceding fiscal year. Each student is eligible to receive the grant only once.
Students must meet academic benchmarks to qualify; specifically, securing at least 60 percent marks in their previous class. Documentary evidence of a minimum GPA of 3.50 at the SSC and HSC or equivalent levels, and a minimum GPA of 3.00 at the undergraduate and equivalent levels, must be provided.
For financial hardship proof, applicants whose parents are employees in grades 13 to 20 under the National Pay Scale 2015 must submit a certificate from the head of their parent or guardian's office confirming the pay grade. Others must provide a certificate from the head of their educational institution confirming their family's poverty status, with an annual income threshold of less than Tk 200,000.
To substantiate the severity of the injury, applicants need to upload a medical certificate from a Civil Surgeon, a doctor of a government hospital, or an Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, verifying the serious nature of injuries sustained in an accident.
Applicants are required to upload clear copies of all necessary documents, including certificates from educational institutions or departments, birth registration certificate, NIDs of the father and mother, the student's photograph and signature, and bank account information. Applications lacking any required documents will not be accepted, and the entire process will be conducted online without the need for hard copies.
The grant disbursement requires the student or their parents to provide complete active bank account details in their own names, alongside a valid mobile number. A cheque's inside page or a bank statement copy must also be uploaded. In cases where both parents are deceased or for valid reasons, a guardian's bank account may be used.
The Trust cautioned that incorrect or inactive bank account information leading to a failed transfer will not result in a re-issuance of the grant. Institutions not listed in the online application system must have their heads apply to the Managing Director of the Prime Minister's Education Assistance Trust with the institution's official letterhead, EIIN, and other pertinent details, either by post or email.
The release, signed by Md. Farid Ahmed, Assistant Director (Additional Charge) of the Prime Minister's Education Assistance Trust, urged all educational institutions to inform eligible students about the grant and instructed relevant officials, including Upazila Secondary Education and Thana Education Office officials, to take necessary actions.
