Jashore: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit announced today that the Mother and Child Welfare Centre in Jashore is set to be upgraded into a 50-bed hospital. Initially, the facility, which currently operates with 20 beds, will be expanded to accommodate 30 beds before reaching its final capacity of 50 beds.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the announcement was made by Amit while speaking as the chief guest at a programme that marked the inauguration of Caesarean section services at the centre. The event was organised by the district Family Planning Department and chaired by Jashore Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashek Hasan.
Amit outlined plans for a nine-storey building to be constructed on the premises of the Jashore Mother and Child Welfare Centre with a completion target set for June 2028. He expressed optimism regarding the project's approval by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
The state minister noted that the centre previously lacked facilities for Caesarean operations and midwifery services. He emphasized the importance of providing quality, safe, and modern healthcare services, urging healthcare providers to avoid haphazard service delivery.
Prior to the programme, Amit inaugurated a cleanliness drive aimed at dengue prevention, organised by the Ward No. 1 unit of Jashore city BNP. The event was attended by District BNP President Advocate Syed Saberul Haque Sabu and General Secretary Delwar Hossain Khan Khokon. The welcome address was delivered by Deputy Director of the district Family Planning Department Dildar Hossain.
