Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman emphasized the critical role of accepting differing views and criticism in maintaining a healthy democratic society. Speaking at the publication ceremony of Barrister Abdur Razzaq's book "Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami: Its History and Politics" at a city hotel, Asaduzzaman highlighted the importance of open-mindedness and tolerance towards contrasting opinions.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister articulated that agreement with every statement from an individual or political entity is not necessary in a democracy. He underscored that dismissing criticism solely because it is disagreeable is unjust. The event provided a platform for Asaduzzaman to express these views, reiterating the essence of constructive criticism in fostering democratic values.
Asaduzzaman further elaborated on Razzaq's book, describing it as more than just a literary or research effort. He emphasized that the work is a reflection of Razzaq's philosophical insights and his experiences in engaging with society. The minister touched upon Razzaq's perspective on governance, suggesting that an Islamic system should evolve organically from societal values rather than being enforced from above.
The minister also discussed Razzaq's analysis of the 1971 Liberation War and the political climate of that era, noting the significance of Razzaq's stance on these historical events. Despite Razzaq's role as assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, his intellectual and philosophical contributions have positioned him beyond his official rank within the organization.
Asaduzzaman concluded by emphasizing the significance of Razzaq's book for political practitioners, urging them to engage with its contents. The publication event also featured notable panelists, including Illinois State University Professor Ali Riaz, former Jahangirnagar University Professor Dilara Choudhury, former US diplomat John Danilovich, and The Daily Star Consulting Editor Kamal Ahmed.
