Dhaka: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a foreign pistol, ammunition, 3.24 lakh yaba tablets, and a large quantity of smuggled goods in five separate border operations today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in Chapainawabganj, members of the 59 BGB Battalion arrested Md Mashiur Rahman in Shibganj and confiscated a foreign pistol, four rounds of ammunition, two magazines, and two motorcycles from his possession. In Cox's Bazar, the 64 BGB Battalion apprehended Md Shafiul Alam, 18, and seized 10,000 yaba tablets at the Hoikong border in Teknaf. In a separate operation in Palongkhali, the battalion arrested Md Jonaet, 26, and confiscated 310,000 yaba tablets reportedly brought from Myanmar for sale.
In Jashore, the 49 BGB Battalion seized 4,000 yaba tablets, 50 bottles of cough syrup, 200 sexual stimulant tablets, 75 sarees, 11 three-piece dresses, two blankets, one kilogram of cumin, and 252 cosmetic items valued at Tk 20.60 lakh. One individual was arrested in connection with this seizure.
In Brahmanbaria and Cumilla, the 60 BGB Battalion (Sultanpur Battalion) seized Indian smuggled goods valued at Tk 42.03 lakh in separate operations. The confiscated items included cumin, energy drinks, puffed snacks, basmati rice, fireworks, hair oil, cattle, skin cream, and a motorcycle.
BGB stated that intelligence surveillance and anti-smuggling operations would continue along the border.
