Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has directed the police to swiftly arrest all individuals involved in the killing of Special Branch (SB) Sub-Inspector Md Altaf Hossain in Aminbazar of Savar. This directive was issued after a meeting with the deceased's family at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Salahuddin assured the family that all efforts would be made to ensure a speedy trial for the murder. He informed them that Tk 6 lakh had been provided to the family from the police welfare fund. Furthermore, Community Bank Bangladesh Ltd will offer necessary loans and assistance to maintain the family business of the deceased.
The Home Minister also instructed the relevant authorities to confer a posthumous police medal on Altaf to honor his integrity and courageous service throughout his career. Financial assistance was handed over to Altaf's wife, Sheuly Parvin, during the meeting.
Altaf was attacked on September 5 by assailants at Baradeshi Paschimpara in Aminbazar while trying to resolve a dispute over the parking of a private car. Seeking refuge in his elder son's business establishment, he was later assaulted with locally made weapons, including rods, pipes, hammers, and sticks at around 8:10 pm. His younger son, Md Ariful Islam, was also seriously injured while trying to protect him.
Local residents rescued both victims and transported them to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where Altaf was declared dead. A murder case has been filed with Savar Model Police Station against 15 individuals.
Altaf, originally from Sirajganj district, joined Bangladesh Police as a constable in 1986 and had been serving with the Special Branch in Dhaka since 2011 until his untimely death.
