Rajshahi: Speakers at a ceremony here today unanimously emphasized the importance of equipping children to tackle the challenges posed by climate change, while ensuring their health and nutrition. If children are provided with a safe environment and essential facilities, they will be able to contribute towards creating a better society in the future.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this was the consensus at the orientation meeting of the Rajshahi City Area Development Programme (ADP) of World Vision Bangladesh, held at the Nanking Darbar Hall in the city. The event featured Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam as the chief guest, with World Vision Bangladesh's Senior Director of Operations, Chandan Gomes, presiding over the meeting.
Other attendees included Civil Surgeon Dr. Raziul Karim, World Vision Bangladesh National Director Dr. Jared Berends, Islamic Foundation Rajshahi Divisional Director Mujahidul Islam, Catholic Diocese DD Reverend Bishop Gervas Rozario, World Vision's Northern Bangladesh Cluster Deputy Director-Field Operations Raju William Rozario, along with government officials, representatives from various NGOs, and children's forums.
Lotus Chisim, the senior manager of Rajshahi City ADP of World Vision Bangladesh, presented the main objectives of the programme, which aims to ensure the overall well-being of children. The programme will be carried out in collaboration with local communities, government bodies, the city corporation, private development organisations, and other stakeholders.
Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam highlighted that the safety of children and women is a key indicator of a country's development, along with the opportunities available to children. He noted that the World Vision programme in Rajshahi holds great promise. He also stressed that the involvement of private development organisations alongside the government could make tackling challenges such as education expansion and drug prevention more effective. Raising awareness within families and society is crucial to reducing school dropouts and the risk of drug use among children.
The organisation stated that approximately 505,324 people in the Rajshahi City Corporation area, including 133,650 families, will benefit from this programme. Already, around 29,918 vulnerable families have been identified. World Vision Bangladesh further mentioned that the activities of the Rajshahi City ADP commenced in October 2025. The main programme is scheduled to run until 2035, followed by a two-year transition plan that will conclude in 2037.
