Dhaka: The Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP) is set for a significant upgrade in technology, manpower, and institutional capacity to ensure that citizens have access to safe, pure, and quality products, Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir announced on Thursday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister, serving as the chief guest at a views exchange meeting with DNCRP officials, emphasized the state's important responsibility in preventing the sale of adulterated, substandard, or harmful products. The DNCRP plays a crucial role in safeguarding consumer rights for the nation's 170-180 million people.
Minister Muktadir highlighted the plans for training, expanding manpower, and integrating modern equipment and technology to enhance the department's effectiveness. He revealed that existing services would gradually transition to digital platforms.
He underscored that the true impact of an institution lies in its influence on people's lives, stating that the DNCRP's work is vital in this context. To leverage international expertise, the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) will be involved in researching the structure, manpower, and service activities of consumer rights protection organizations globally.
The minister mentioned that based on the research findings, the department's activities would be expanded and made more consumer-friendly. He hinted at several new initiatives aimed at making DNCRP's services more accessible and effective for consumers.
The meeting also covered discussions on the department's ongoing activities, technology usage, manpower structure, future plans, and strategies to simplify and enhance consumer services.
