Dhaka: The benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) extended its recovery for the third consecutive session today, driven by broad-based buying interest as investors remained active despite concerns over geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region. The improving gas supply situation in industrial areas also provided some relief to investor sentiment, supporting the upward momentum in the market.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, gained 38.1 points to settle at 5,532, compared with 5,494 points in the previous trading session. Market momentum remained positive throughout most of the session despite mild selling pressure during the first hour. Sustained buying across a wide range of sectors subsequently strengthened the recovery trend.
Meanwhile, turnover on the DSE increased 17.8 percent to Taka 6.6 billion, compared with Taka 5.6 billion in the previous session. Textile stocks dominated the day's trading, accounting for 26.3 percent of total turnover, followed by General Insurance with 14.9 percent and Bank with 12.4 percent.
Most sectors posted gains. Mutual Fund led the sectoral advance with a 3.6 percent rise, followed by General Insurance at 3.0 percent and Cement at 1.9 percent. Only Travel recorded a marginal decline of 0.2 percent.
Of the 395 issues traded, prices of 259 advanced, 78 declined, and 58 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed higher. Its Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) rose 46.5 points, while the All Share Price Index (CASPI) gained 63.0 points.
