Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman has described films as a powerful medium for changing the mindset of society and people. He made the remarks as the chief guest at a programme organised at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) auditorium today marking 'Film Directors Day 2026'. The Bangladesh Film Directors Association organised the event.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Andaleeve emphasized the deep impact films can have on society. "There was a time when the messages conveyed through cinema might have been seen through our eyes, but they became deeply etched in our hearts," he stated. He advocated for the production of quality films and expressed the government's desire to collaborate for the future development of the film industry. Highlighting societal issues such as drug abuse and discrimination, he called on filmmakers to guide society out of these crises through their work.
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury, speaking as a special guest, acknowledged that the film industry had not developed to its expected potential compared to its golden days. He assured that the government is taking steps to develop BFDC and the film industry as a whole, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman instructing the preparation of a comprehensive development plan.
Prime Minister's Adviser on Information and Broadcasting Zahed Ur Rahman reiterated the government's interest in restoring the glory of the film sector. He mentioned the need for a comprehensive roadmap to overcome the current crisis and modernize the film industry's infrastructure, which will be developed through stakeholder discussions.
The event also saw special honors being bestowed upon renowned playback singer Sabina Yasmin and media personality Faridur Reza Sagar for their contributions. Sabina Yasmin expressed gratitude for her career, attributing her success to the film directors. Other distinguished personalities and filmmakers were also honored for their contributions.
The gathering was attended by notable film personalities, including Masud Parvez (Sohel Rana), A J Mintu, Kazi Hayat, Delwar Jahan Jhantu, Dr Matin Rahman, and Mashiuddin Shaker. President of the Bangladesh Film Directors Association Shahin Suman delivered the welcome address, with Secretary General Shahin Kabir Tutul and BFDC Managing Director Masuma Rahman Tani also in attendance.
