Dhaka: International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam has confirmed that an investigation is currently underway regarding allegations made by Md Rashed Khan, a political assistant to the prime minister. Khan claims he was detained and tortured during the 2018 quota reform movement.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ICT chief prosecutor shared these details with reporters after Rashed met him at his office to inquire about the progress of the investigation. The meeting occurred earlier this morning, marking a significant step in the ongoing probe.
Md Rashed Khan recounted to the press his arrest on July 1, 2018, from Bhasantek, after which he was taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office on Minto Road. Subsequently, he was moved to the Cyber Crime Unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), where then Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ishtiaq Ahmed allegedly tortured him for approximately 30 minutes. Khan detailed that his hands, legs, and eyes were bound, and his mouth was gagged with a gamcha during the ordeal.
In his statement, Md Rashed Khan mentioned that he filed a formal complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal on May 7, 2025, regarding the incident. His meeting with the Chief Prosecutor today was aimed at understanding the current status of the investigation into his allegations.
