Dhaka: Retired District Judge, freedom fighter, and three-time Election Commissioner of the Dhaka University Alumni Association, Sharif Md Lutfur Rahman, passed away on Tuesday at 6:00 pm while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the 70-year-old had been receiving treatment in the BMU Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for seven days after suffering a brain stroke, which was followed by cardiac arrest, as confirmed by family sources. His body has been placed in a cold room pending the arrival of his son, who is expected to reach Dhaka on a flight today around 6:00 pm.
The first Namaz-e-Janaza for Sharif Md Lutfur Rahman is scheduled to take place on the High Court premises on Thursday at 11:00 am. A subsequent Janaza will be conducted at the Dhaka University Central Mosque at 1:00 pm. Following the Asr prayers, he will be honored with a guard of honour in recognition of his contributions as a valiant freedom fighter.
After the ceremonies, his body will be transported to his native village in Gopalganj, where he will be laid to rest beside his parents' graves. The news of his passing has left a deep impact on his family, friends, colleagues, and associates.
Sharif Lutfur Rahman is survived by his wife, two sons, and other relatives.
