Kathmandu: Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah has expressed sincere gratitude and deep appreciation to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for his thoughtful message following the flash floods that struck Nepal on August 26. In a recent communication, Prime Minister Shah highlighted the tragic loss of lives and the extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods caused by the floods, which have left deep and lasting impacts on affected communities.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Nepalese Prime Minister conveyed his deepest appreciation for Bangladesh's generous contribution of USD 1 million to support ongoing relief and humanitarian efforts. Shah emphasized the significance of this support in aiding Nepal's recovery from the tragedy and assisting citizens in rebuilding their lives. He noted that the financial aid from Bangladesh would be of great help in these efforts.
In his letter, Prime Minister Shah also expressed his sincere appreciation for the adoption of a condolence motion by the Bangladesh National Parliament. He acknowledged this gesture as a reflection of the genuine sympathy and solidarity of the Bangladeshi people towards Nepal. Shah reiterated the strong ties between the two countries, describing Bangladesh as not only a close neighbor but also a dear friend, underscoring the importance of people-to-people connections.
The devastating flash floods and mudslide in Nepal have resulted in a death toll exceeding 1,400, with over 5,000 individuals reported missing. On September 3, the Bangladesh government contributed $1 million to the Nepal Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund to bolster relief, recovery, and humanitarian efforts in Northern Nepal. Additionally, the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad adopted a condolence motion on August 27 in response to the tragedy.
